Lost panels in Xubuntu 14.04

Lost panels in Xubuntu 14.04

Description

When OS launches the splash screen slowly loads (takes about 2-7min to load), then in one flash, the default upper panel appears and disappears forever. After the OS loads, no panels are showing (not even in Thunar file manager).

Steps to fix bug

  1. run xfce4-settings-manager
  2. Open Theme configuration
  3. Revert
  4. [optional] Close theme config. window (if it's not working use ALT+CTRL+DEL => opens up xkill and kill the damn thing)

Then go to System (your still in Settings manager now)

  1. Open Session and startup
  2. [optional] Set Splash (2nd tab) to None (mine was slowing down screen load)
  3. In Application autostart(3rd tab) check only the following processes
  4. Now go to Session(4th tab)
  5. Reboot (if critical CTRL+ALT+T to open Terminal and run sudo reboot now)

DONE! Everything should work fine now.

NOTE If the above steps didn't fix problem, try these:
